Robeson TWP., Pa. – A 44-year-old man from Coatesville has been charged with homicide by vehicle following a crash that killed two men and seriously injured one other, state police say.
The crash occurred near the Green Hills exit on I-176 South in Robeson Township at approximately 6 a.m., according to authorities.
Police say the crash occurred as three drivers were traveling in the southbound lanes of I-176.
44-year-old Paul Villanueva attempted to change lanes between two cars when the back of his vehicle hit the front of another car, authorities say.
Police say this collision caused the car that was hit to leave the roadway and hit an embankment before becoming airborne between the southbound and northbound bridges.
The airborne vehicle struck the northbound lane before landing upside down in a nearby creek between the two bridges, authorities say.
According to police, the 18 and 20-year-old passengers of the vehicle were pronounced dead on the scene. The 21-year-old driver is seriously injured and has been transported to Reading Hospital.
Villanueva additionally hit the rear bumper of another vehicle, which stopped on the right shoulder of 176 S, authorities say.
Police say the 64-year-old driver reported no injuries.
All vehicles have been towed from the scene, and the road has been reopened as of 11:30 a.m. Friday.
According to authorities, Villanueva was taken into custody following the crash and has been charged with homicide by motor vehicle and related offenses.
