BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. – American Postal Workers Union volunteers said they want people to know voting by mail is secure.
Chad Beer was among the workers outside the Lehigh Valley Processing and Distribution Center in Bethlehem Township taking part in what they are calling a national day of action.
“We don’t look at a ballot and decide if it’s a Republican or Democrat or Independent. We process the mail. That is our job,” said Beer.
The union’s day of action comes after President Trump’s recent nationwide address where he raised doubt over the legitimacy of elections.
“We still have a major challenge that must be addressed because no country could be great without fair and honest elections,” said President Trump during his July 17th address.
The President ordered the government in March to create a “state citizenship list.” He said this would show eligible voters, and mail ballots would be delivered to people listed. President Trump is now asking the Supreme Court to make way for his executive order.
“You have to trust your country, because if there can be no trust, there can be no greatness and very simple: no trust, no greatness,” said President Trump.
More than 20 states and Washington D.C. sued saying it is unconstitutional for the President to set election rules. Beer and Pennsylvania Postal Workers Union President Kevin Gallagher said voters should already feel safe sending in their ballot.
“There’s postal inspectors on the floor. They watch the processing, the movement of mail and they are the most secure form of mailing you can have of voting,” said Gallagher.
