PITTSBURGH — The Pirates announced a slew of roster moves ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks. Outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia, left-hander Hunter Barco and righty Noah Murdock have been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, while infielder/outfielder Tyler Callihan, left-hander Brandon Eisert and right-hander Isaac Mattson got optioned.
Garcia appeared in 13 games for the Pirates earlier this season and hit .200 with a double and two RBI. In 58 games with Indianapolis this season, the 23-year-old carries a .270/.340/.422 batting line with 11 doubles, seven home runs, 29 RBI and five stolen bases. In 20 games this month, Garcia hit .362 with a .979 OPS and 11 RBI.
Barco combined for five appearances between a couple different stints with Pittsburgh this season and is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA. The 25-year-old, who recently returned from an elbow injury, is 3-6 with a 4.87 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 44.1 innings across 13 appearances/six starts with Indianapolis.
Murdock was been added as the 27th man four a couple of doubleheaders but has yet to appear in a game for the Pirates this season. The 27-year-old has combined to go 2-2 with a 3.64 ERA in 28 appearances/two starts across three levels this season.
Callihan appeared in 40 games for the Pirates prior to getting optioned and hit .211/283/.389 with four doubles, two triples, three home runs and 15 RBI. He had gone hitless in his last 16 at-bats.
Eister, acquired from the White Sox earlier this month, is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in seven appearances to begin his Pirates’ career.
Mattson has been optioned for the second time this season. The right-hander has totaled 36 relief appearances on the year and is 0-0 with a 4.93 ERA.
