PHILADELPHIA — Before Philadelphia Eagles DT Jordan Davis spoke to reporters at the team’s training camp practice Wednesday, he asked: “How do we feel about LeBron?”
The newest Philadelphia 76er is a topic throughout the sports world, including the Eagles locker room.
LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and four-time NBA champion, agreed to a two-year deal worth $8 million last week. It will be a record 24th season for the NBA great.
“I think for what he represents in sports and sports culture, it’s huge — and it’s huge for the city of Philadelphia,” Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts said. “It’ll be exciting to have a figure like that in the city, what he’s done, one of the greatest to ever do it. I’m excited to be a part of that.”

James joins a team with championship aspiration, much like the Eagles. The 76ers, who play across the street from Lincoln Financial Field at Xfinity Mobile Arena, hold the third-best odds to win the NBA Finals this upcoming season (+800). The Eagles enter 2026 coming off back-to-back NFC East titles, and the team’s Super Bowl LIX win after the 2024 season is still fresh.
Perhaps James makes his way around the Eagles at some point. General manager Howie Roseman was asked about James as his news conference ended Wednesday. He said James is invited to Eagles practice any time.
Eagles star wide receiver DeVonta Smith, a noted Celtics fan, might feel conflicted: “Looks like the Sixers are trying to go win one. Can’t be mad at that.”
The Eagles might have helped recruit James to Philadelphia indirectly.
Running back Saquon Barkley, who said before James signed with the 76ers that you’re “remembered forever” if you win a title in Philadelphia, added that “the city of Philadelphia is a super cool place to be for sports in how involved the fans are, and having LeBron here is great for the culture.”
