HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — With the start of the fall semester just weeks away, Johnson College is helping students take the next step toward higher education.
Prospective students visited the college’s Scranton and Hazle Township campuses for Last Minute College Planning Day, where they received one-on-one enrollment assistance, explored academic programs, and learned about financial aid opportunities before classes begin.
Enrollment Manager at Johnson College’s Hazleton Campus, Katy Jensen, shared what the event brought to students.
“We try to do something like this every year where we just invite students who maybe don’t have a plan yet for the semester. For them to come in, get all the information that they need, and just feel really secure to start classes in August,” said Jensen.
“Getting that one-on-one interaction with students anymore is super important. Just being able to talk to them face to face and try to alleviate maybe any stressors that they have. Whether that be they’re worried about financial aid or scheduling or how they’re going to make going to classes full-time work with maybe working full time. We’re here to kind of answer all their questions,” said Jensen.
Jensen also told us that students arrived to hear more about the programs Johnson College has to offer.
“We’ve had a lot of students come in to talk to us about our HVAC program, building and property maintenance, electrical. We also are offering new programs this year in automation and robotics, and industrial mechanics, as well as our one-year welding program,” said Jensen.
Jensen emphasized the importance of hands-on learning, explaining that allowing students to experience the labs firsthand helps prepare them for their future careers.
“You don’t know whether you want to do something like this until you get a little bit of experience in it, right? You don’t know whether you can handle being a welder until you get in the booth for a little. So, I always like to encourage our students to get down here, get a feel for the lab, see what you like doing, and get some experience in it,” said Jensen.
