Crushers rally with four runs in ninth, but Jackals escape with 7-6 victory – Morning Journal

The Crushers rallied with four runs in the ninth inning, but host New Jersey hung on for a 7-6 victory on July 30.

Lake Erie (29-40) trailed, 7-2, entering the top of the ninth. Second baseman Luis Acevedo hit a two-run home run against his old team to make it 7-4. Later in the inning, first baseman Jacob Tobias hit an RBI double to make it 7-5, then scored on a dropped third strike to cut the Crushers’ deficit to one run.

Right fielder James Jett came up next, but flied out to right field to end the game. Jett finished with two hits and an RBI.

Center fielder Garret Pike had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Acevedo also had two hits.

Nicholas Chavez had one hit and scored twice, and Joe Redfield had one hit and one run scored.

Lake Erie starter Edwin Sanchez (6-5) took the loss. He gave up four runs, struck out five and walked seven.

The Crushers begin the last leg of their two-week, four-city trip on July 31 when they play at Sussex County.
