A loud bang reportedly shook Moosic Thursday evening, but emergency responders found no evidence of an explosion, damage or public danger following a brief investigation, according to Police Chief Richard Janesko.
At about 8 p.m., the department received multiple 911 calls and direct calls to the station from residents reporting a loud explosion.
Officers, firefighters and emergency service personnel conducted an search of the borough, but couldn’t find the source. Police also searched the former Rocky Glen Park property, which was sold in June and new construction underway.
Janesko said the lower gate of the former park has recently been open and trespassing on the property has been commonplace for years, with offenders often using the property to fire guns for target practice.
Officers confirmed with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport that there was no aircraft activity in the area that would have caused a sonic boom.
Police didn’t received any reports of property damage, fires, or power outages associated with the incident.
“At this time, the cause of the reported explosion remains unfounded, and there is no known threat to the public,” the department said in a release.
