Despite the organization that managed it announcing this week that it is ceasing operations, the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest will continue.

Organizers of the annual jazz festival announced Friday that a new management organization called Berks Jazz Fest has been established. Made up of many of the people who have been involved with the festival for years, the organization will work to ensure Berks Jazz Fest’s continued success and sustainability.

The announcement was made by John Ernesto, who has played an integral role in the Berks Jazz Fest since its creation in1991, and Jim Boscov, CEO of Boscov’s.

“The Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest is more than a music festival — it is a cultural institution that has enriched our community for decades,” Ernesto said in a statement announcing the new management organization. “We are committed to preserving its legacy and we will continue to build on its strong foundation.

“This transition ensures that the festival’s mission, identity and tradition of artistic excellence will not be interrupted, and we remain committed to presenting world-class jazz performances.”

The creation of the new management organization was necessary to keep the festival running after the announcement earlier this week that the Berks Arts Council was shutting its doors after 55 years serving the community through arts education, cultural programming, festivals, grants and advocacy.

The council had managed Berks Jazz Fest for 35 years, helping transform it into one of the nation’s premier jazz festivals. It attracts internationally acclaimed artists and music fans from across the United States and around the world.

In the statement announcing the new management organization, Boscov acknowledged the impact the arts council has had on the jazz festival.

“The Berks Arts Council stewardship established the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest as a nationally recognized event, and we are proud to carry that legacy forward without interruption,” he said.

The 36th annual jazz festival is set to take place April 1 through 11.

Additional information about the festival, including artist announcements, ticket information and information about special festival events — such as the Jazz Appreciation Month Celebration, which extends the festival throughout the month of April — will be released in the coming weeks.
