In this week’s 16 To The Rescue, we meet 3-year-old Betty. We introduced you to her sister a few weeks ago, but now it’s Betty’s turn to find her forever home.

FORTY FORT, Pa. — In this week’s 16 To The Rescue, we meet a 3-year-old Boxer named Betty. We introduced you to her sister, Wilma, a few weeks ago, but now it’s Betty’s turn to find her forever home.

“She’s that dog that looks at you and listens; you expect her to talk back to you sometimes,” said Cara Post, Adopt A Boxer Rescue.

Which is ironic, because rescue workers with Adopt A Boxer Rescue have never even heard Betty bark. They say she is just the sweetest girl. 

“She’s a momma’s girl for sure, very skiddish around men, warms up to them, but definitely prefers females to males. She’s kid-friendly, other dog-friendly,” said Post. 

And just like her sister, Betty is crate trained, fully house-broken, and is good on a leash. Betty is 3 years old and was an owner surrender after living in a hoarding-type situation for most of her life. Now she is being fostered here in Forty Fort, adjusting nicely, but still can be shy. 

“The things that you would think would startle her, like the vacuum cleaner and the weed whacker, she’s ok with, so the day-to-day household stuff. It’s more like outdoor motorcycles going by or car doors or things like that. She’s slow to warm up to new people, but once she gets to know you and once she trusts you, she is all wiggles and zoomies and the whole 9,” said Post. 

Rescue workers with Adopt A Boxer would like to see Betty go to a home with a fenced-in yard. There can be another dog in the home, but she would be ok without one too.

“A family with a strong female figure, someone who has kids, someone who has time to spend with Betty. Take her on walks; she loves going for rides in the car, just being part of the family,” said Post. 

That’s why Betty is so happy here at her foster home. With 3 kids here and lots of love, she is just now learning for the first time what it’s like to be loved and cared for. 

“She has very much figured out where I cook in the kitchen for droppings and where the kids eat so that she gets treats. She just wants to be part of the family; she wants to be part of something more and not be left on her own,” Post said.
