Christine Rush is ready to work for the residents of Erie’s 1st Ward as its newly-elected magisterial district judge.
Rush, 59, the longtime district director for State Rep. Patrick Harkins, D-1st Dist., ran unopposed on the general election ballot for a position now held by Erie 1st Ward District Judge Sue Mack, who is retiring, after earning the Democratic nomination in the May primary. Paul “P.J.” Monella, who won the Republican nomination, withdrew from the race following the primary.

Rush received 1,013 election day votes and 438 mail-in votes Nov. 4, according to complete but unofficial results.

In a posting following her election victory, Rush said she was deeply humbled and honored to be elected as the first African American to serve on the judicial bench in Erie County. She said the victory was not just hers, but belonged to every voter, volunteer, supporter and believer who stood by her on this journey.
“I am so deeply moved by the support and trust of the community,” Rush said in a statement to the Erie Times-News Nov. 5.
District judges serve six-year terms with an annual salary set at $113,713 in January.
