BIRDSBORO, Pa. — Saturday was the third annual overdose awareness poker run in Birdsboro.
Jolynn Melendez-Ortiz lost her son Dominick to fentanyl poisoning in 2023.
She started this run the year after his death to help give back.
All proceeds raised helped create recovery baskets that will go to a Berks County recovery home.
“My son was 30 when he passed away, he didn’t have time to build his own legacy, so I feel like this is my way of building his legacy for him since he was so young when he passed,” said Melendez-Ortiz.
They’ve been able to help 50 people going into recovery homes so far.
Ortiz is part of a group – Three J’s Purple Mission – which is trying to become a non-profit to help awareness to overdose, addiction and the fentanyl crisis in America.
