Lehigh County authorities are investigating the death of an 8-week-old infant, the Lehigh County coroner announced Wednesday.

The coroner says the child lived in Coplay. She was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg in Bethlehem, according to a news release from the coroner’s office.

An autopsy and radiological examination are complete, but the cause and manner of death are pending further investigation, the release says.

The coroner, Coplay Police Department and Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.

Coplay Police Chief Ryan Emerich says his department is investigating the case with Lehigh County detectives and needs to confer with county authorities before making a statement.

The district attorney did not immediately respond to an email seeking a status update on the investigation.

“Coroner (Daniel) Buglio and the entire staff of the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center extend their deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time,” the news release says.
