Erie’s aquatic community gathered today to celebrate some of its most accomplished athletes and coaches as the Erie County Aquatic Hall of Fame honored its 2026 induction class.
The ceremony took place at the Kahkwa Club, where swimmers, divers and families filled the room for this year’s induction dinner.
The honorees included All-Americans Doug Bennink, Adam Fish and Mike Squeglia, along with standout performers Kelly Elliot Dine and Conrad Kubaney.
The hall also honored the 2009 McDowell men’s 400-yard freestyle relay, celebrated for its District 10 championship and All-American finish.
Organizers and athletes say the event is a reminder of the legacy Erie continues to build in the water.
“It’s pretty surreal, to be honest with you. Pretty humbling. Back then, I didn’t think I’d be here at the Hall of Fame, so it’s pretty cool, especially with the guys I get to share it with. It’s special.” Kyle Lazenby, an athlete who got inducted for outstanding relay 400 free relay commented.
“We’ve had Olympians. We’ve had many high school state champions, All-Americans, officials, coaches and people from across the aquatic community.” John Myrica, the President of Erie County Aquatic Hall of Fame said.
The Hall of Fame says it plans to continue expanding its archives and outreach efforts to preserve Erie’s aquatic history for future generations.
