SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — While it wasn’t the sunniest or driest day at McDade Park in Scranton, that did not stop attendees and their four-legged friends from enjoying the annual Paws in the Park event on Sunday Afternoon.
The event, organized by the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, features over 50 vendors, food trucks, and raffles, with all the funds raised on Sunday afternoon going directly to the Animal Shelter.
“I think people come out year after year to this event because they want to support a cause that they believe in, and that’s us at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter,” Sherry Crolly, Development Director for Griffin Pond, said.
Crolly says the Paws in the Park event brings together families, pets, and the community, all while helping support the Animal Shelter and its mission of ensuring each animal in the shelter is taken care of as they wait to be adopted to their forever homes.
“We just took in a dog this past week that has parvo from the emergency hospital down in the Plains area, so that bill is going to be pretty pricey, so this will help benefit all of that,” Crolly said.
While the annual event of Paws in the Park is centered around raising funds for the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, another big part is educating the public about being responsible pet owners, especially those who choose to adopt at local animal shelters such as Griffin Pond.
“You should really research the breed of animal that you’re going to adopt before you adopt. You should also not assume that the animal is going to just fall into your routine naturally in a home,” Crolly said.
