Magee-Women’s UPMC Hamot Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

Magee-Women’s UPMC Hamot is recognizing World Breastfeeding Week by raising awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding and highlighting resources available to families throughout the region.

World Breastfeeding Week is observed annually from August 1 through August 7. To mark the occasion, Magee-Women’s UPMC Hamot set up a special display in the lobby of the Women’s Hospital designed to educate visitors and bring attention to the importance of breastfeeding for infants and families.

While hospital officials emphasize that breastfeeding is a personal choice for mothers, it is widely recognized as an important contributor to infant health and development. The awareness display aims to provide information that can help families make informed decisions about feeding their newborns.

The exhibit features educational materials about breastfeeding, resources for expectant and new parents, and information about support services available through UPMC. Visitors can also learn about the hospital’s free lactation support services, which are designed to assist mothers with breastfeeding questions and challenges before and after delivery.

Hospital staff say the goal is to ensure families have access to the knowledge and support they need as they begin their parenting journey.

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated around the globe each year to promote breastfeeding education, encourage community support, and improve health outcomes for infants and mothers. Through its awareness efforts, Magee-Women’s UPMC Hamot hopes to connect more families with resources that can help them succeed in reaching their feeding goals.
