Mize, who is arguably the best rental starting pitcher on the market, is the hot topic in Detroit after the team traded Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In 2026, Mize has a 2.70 ERA and eye-opening 0.99 WHIP across 86.2 innings pitched. The former No. 1 overall pick is under team control for the next few months before entering free agency after the 2026 MLB season. Mize, who could be worth a first-round pick if he leaves Detroit in free agency, would require a good haul.

If Philadelphia wants Mize, it has to make a big enough offer to pry him from Detroit. The Tigers want to compete after trading Skubal, so they don’t feel inclined to move Mize. Therefore, the Phillies must meet Detroit’s demands, even if it goes a little higher than expected.
