A road closure is the newest phase for several construction projects that have left some homeowners and businesses frustrated.

DICKSON CITY, Pa. — Construction season is nothing new, but this new construction is getting old for residents in Dickson City.

A neighbor, who did not want to appear on camera, says the work along Main Street is causing major disruptions in the community. “Oh, torture. Between seven to nine in the morning, they’re out here starting, cutting up the road, doing construction. I literally have a 2-year-old in the house. They’re waking her up at seven o’clock in the morning.”

The stretch of Main Street sees thousands of cars daily, but not this week.

New sidewalks, gas line repairs and a paving project have left several blocks closed to drivers.

“Time of day, you get into rush hour, morning traffic, afternoon traffic; luckily we don’t have the schools and buses running yet. You’re looking at, you know, a couple thousand cars a day that come through the gateway of the Mid Valley here,” said Chief Bill Bilinski, Dickson City Police.

Police Chief Bill Bilinski says the detour runs right in front of the borough’s police station.

While the work is inconvenient, Bilinski knows it’s only temporary. “It’s only temporary; once everything’s put back in place, smoother roads, better infrastructure, cleaner looking in you know, town, it’ll have its benefits in the end,” he said.

The construction along Main Street is a combination of a couple of projects and is causing problems for businesses.

American Legion Post 665 sits in the middle of this construction zone along Main Street. “This has been a big inconvenience for our customers,” said Joann Taylor, American Legion Post 665.

Bartender Joann Taylor says the closures and detours have kept more members away, hurting business all summer long. “This is a veterans club. We are the American Legion 665, and our veterans come here for camaraderie, and they need to get out and see people.”

That section of Main Street is expected to be paved and reopened by the end of the week. Officials say more construction to finish the gas line replacement project will start again next year.
