Upper Darby treasurer resigns, was elected in fall

Upper Darby’s treasurer has resigned after only months on the job.

A motion to accept the resignation of MD Sayduzzaman from the Office of Treasurer is on council’s agenda for their Wednesday evening’s meeting.

Sayduzzaman, was elected in the fall of 2025 with nearly 70 percent of the vote. A request for comment from him has not been returned.

Rober Ellis, a spokesperson for Upper Darby Township, said Sayduzzaman tended the resignation last week and officials do not yet know who will replace him.

Sayduzzaman sent a letter to the website Broad & Liberty stating the reason was so he could devote more time to his business, New Hope Home Car Inc.

Sayduzzaman has been questioned over multiple tax issues, including IRS liens and proper filing of state forms.

The agenda for the Wednesday night council meeting also includes a vote on reorganizing council leadership including the president, vice president and secretary.
