BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – Met-Ed crews are still hard at work cleaning up damage after this week’s storms.
Berks County was one of the areas hardest hit, so much so that Met-Ed says it had to bring in external crews to help.
“We also shifted crews from some of our sister utilities across the state to help make that restoration effort a little quicker,” said Bridget McNie, spokesperson for Met-Ed.
The power company is still working to return electricity to customers in the Berks area. At the height of the storm, it had more than 18,000 outages statewide.
“Our crews have been dealing with with downed trees, broken poles and crossarms, damaged wire that needs to be replaced,” McNie said.
Power crews aren’t the only crews hard at work — restoration crews are also busy at homes like Brenda Dark’s in Alsace Township.
“This has been the worst summer storm,” Dark said.
Jon Fetzer, a field supervisor for Berks Fire Water Restorations, says it’s a good idea to take a closer look at trees close to your home.
“Just be watchful,” Fetzer said. “I mean, it’s still the middle of the summer. We can get a lot more of these storms.”
Met-Ed says if trees or power lines are still down in your area, report it.
“The sooner customers let us know where that outage is, the sooner we can get a crew there to assess the situation and get it repaired,” McNie said.
The majority of current outages should be back online by 11 p.m. Wednesday, she said.
