A 16-year-old boy was shot Tuesday in Allentown, police said.

Officers responded around 10:30 p.m. to South Carlisle and East Union streets for a report of a shooting, Allentown police said in a news release. There, they found the teen with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are non-life threatening.

The shooting is being investigated by the Allentown Police Criminal Investigation Unit. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the shooting is asked to contact police at 610-437-7721 or make an anonymous tip through the Allentown Police Tip411 app.

Tuesday’s shooting is the latest in several violent incidents this year involving teen victims. In June, 17-year-old Ja’meer Roberts was killed in a shooting at North Jay and East North streets on the city’s East Side. In May, 18-year-old Tymell Millan-Mason of Bethlehem was shot outside the McDonald’s on Union Boulevard in Allentown. He died three days later.

In a forum last month, activists called on the state Legislature to enact stricter gun control laws, and highlighted the need for more community outreach to youth at risk of gun violence.
