Asa ‘Ace’ Merrit Scott
OBITUARY
Asa Merrit Scott of Eynon passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on August 2nd, at the Gino Merli Veterans Center. He was 94.
Born in Peckville, he was the eldest son of Ernest and Caroline Sheerer Scott. He attended Blakely High School and the Johnson School of Technology.
He was a proud combat Veteran and served two tours of Duty in the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Mildred Cookie Kane and they shared a loving marriage for sixty six years.
Ace was a man of great faith and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very proud to be a Knight and held many titles in the organization. He faithfully served God, his community and those in need for many years.
He was a loyal employee of Sugarmans, where he was a manager for 45 years.
Ace was an avid hunter and looked forward to his favorite day of the year, the first day of deer season. He loved nice cars, dancing with his wife, spoiling his grandchildren and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Ainsworth and husband John, Mariette Zelinski and husband Peter and Michelle Passeri; his grandchildren, Carly Shayka and husband Derek, Christy Cole and husband Roy, Jeffrey Baka and wife Melissa, C.J. Passeri, Chase Passeri and Molly Hall; his great-grandchildren, Brooke Macknosky, Ella and Lila Shayka, Charlee and Jameson Cole and Brinley and Arielle Baka; a sister, Alberta Misko; two brothers, Joe and Robert Glenn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cookie Scott, brother Ernie Scott, and sisters Alice and Anna.
His family would like to gratefully thank the entire staff of the Gino Merli Veterans Center for the love, kindness, exceptional care and respect he received there. Especially all the staff on 3 south. Judy, Shannon and all his caregivers. You were his angels and our family will forever be grateful to you all. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
The funeral will be on Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Christ the King Parish, St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church, Eynon. Entombment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements are under the care and direction of James M. Margotta Funeral Home.
