Two Scranton men face charges after police said they brutally assaulted another male at a city gas station Monday night.
Officers responded to the Sunoco, 234 S. Main Ave., around 10:48 p.m. for the report of an assault where the victim was unresponsive but breathing, according to a criminal complaint. The suspects fled before officers arrived, police said.
Officers immediately began rendering aid to the victim — identified as Terrence Dantzler — who was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center.
In surveillance footage provided by the gas station manager, officers observed the suspects arrive in a white Acura, according to the criminal complaint.
The driver and registered owner of the vehicle — identified as Jamil Davis, 34, 916 W. Locust St. — was wearing blue pajama pants and a black T-shirt, officers said. The rear passenger — identified as Rashaun Hudson, 50, 442 Aswell Court — was wearing black shorts, a white T-shirt, a black hat and boots.
The footage shows a verbal argument between Dantzler and Davis and Hudson, according to the criminal complaint. Seconds later, Hudson pushed Dantzler against a wall and punched him multiple times.
Davis also assaulted Dantzler, punching him repeatedly in the head and face, according to the criminal complaint.
While being attacked by the two men, Dantzler fell to the ground and struck his head on the pavement, appearing to lose consciousness, police said.
Davis continued punching Dantzler in the head while he lay motionless on the ground, officers added.
Additionally, Hudson threw a glass alcohol bottle at Dantzler, striking him in the head, before the two suspects fled in the Acura.
Officers established surveillance at Davis’ residence and witnessed the two suspects wearing the same clothes as in the video footage, according to the criminal complaint. A white Acura with the same registration as the vehicle at the gas station was also parked at the residence, police said.
Both suspects were taken into custody inside the residence after initially ignoring commands from police, according to the criminal complaint.
Police charged Davis and Hudson with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
As of Wednesday, Davis and Hudson remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail each. A preliminary hearing for both men is scheduled Aug. 17 at 9:45 a.m.
