Does Pennsylvania have a back-to-school sales tax holiday?
LANCASTER, Pa. —
Pennsylvania has not had a tax holiday since 2001, but with a new bill being proposed, that could change.

Some items are already exempt year roundAs it stands, Pennsylvania exempts most clothing, textbooks, and shoes from sales tax.As long as clothing and shoes are neither formalwear nor athletic clothing, they are exempt from sales tax. However, items such as backpacks, notebooks, and electronics are not exempt.House Bill 1667
The current version of House Bill 1667, which still needs to be passed by the Pennsylvania House, includes a tax holiday that would apply from the first Saturday in August through the third Saturday in August.
The proposed tax holiday would exempt:
Computers and tablets up to $1,500.Book bags.Various school supplies, such as crayons and pencils.Previous attempts
A previous version of House Bill 1667 was passed by the Pennsylvania House.
However, since the Senate changed the bill to include the tax holiday, it now needs to be reapproved by the House.
If the House approves the bill, it would go to the governor.
As things stand now, Pennsylvania does not have a back-to-school sales tax holiday.
