SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A Scranton man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison after admitting to using another person’s identity in connection with a false passport application, federal prosecutors announced.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania said Domingo Castillo, also known as Jose Antonio Garcia, 62, was sentenced Wednesday by Senior U.S. District Judge Malachy E. Mannion to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated identity theft.
According to U.S. Attorney Brian D. Miller, Castillo admitted that on or about April 9, 2021, in Lackawanna County, he knowingly possessed and used another person’s means of identification while committing the felony offense of making a false statement in a passport application.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James M. Buchanan prosecuted the case.
