Cementon Bridge over Lehigh River to close for weekend in August

The Cementon Bridge over the Lehigh River will be closed for a weekend later in August as a replacement project continues.

PennDOT said the bridge that carries Route 329 between Whitehall Township and Northampton will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21 until 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24.

A detour will use Main Street, Kreidersville Road, Walnut Drive, Route 248, Blue Mountain Drive, Route 145 and Second Street.

Rainy weather will not delay the work, PennDOT said.

Crews began constructing the 585-foot-long bridge that carries Route 329 over the Lehigh River in March 2023, replacing a 90-year-old span that was in poor condition.

The new span opened in December and demolition work began on the older span, which was mostly completed in July.

The $21.7 million project is expected to continue through 2028.
