A 25-year-old woman was arrested after police said she stole a package containing thousands of dollars worth of gold and silver in Bensalem.
According to the Bensalem Police Department, Kaileigh Hogan of Ontario, Canada, was charged last month in connection with the theft of gold and silver valued at $43,549.
On May 11, Bensalem Township Police responded to a report of a stolen FedEx package.
According to police, the victim reported that while awaiting delivery of a package containing gold and silver, a family member saw a woman, later identified as Hogan, claim to be the owner, sign for the package and leave the area.
With the help of intersection cameras, license plate readers and other surveillance footage, investigators identified a Nissan sedan as the suspect vehicle.
Police said their investigation revealed that Hogan had rented the car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car at Philadelphia International Airport on May 10. After the suspected theft, Hogan returned to the airport and flew to Arizona that same day.
Following the investigation, Bensalem police issued an arrest warrant charging Hogan with forgery, theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception. According to officials, Hogan was in the United States from Canada on a visa, therefore, investigators contacted U.S. Customs and Border Protection to alert the agency of the outstanding warrant.
On July 5, Bensalem Township Police were notified that Hogan had been taken into custody while attempting to cross into Canada at Lewiston, New York.
On July 31, Hogan was transported from New York to Bensalem for her arraignment.
Hogan’s bail was set at $1 million, and she was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
“Bensalem Township Police would like to thank all the agencies involved for their assistance in locating and apprehending Hogan,” officers wrote in a news release.
