A University of Pittsburgh student is facing charges after police said he admitted to trying to take photos of a female student while in a bathroom stall on campus. According to a criminal complaint, police were called to Panther Central, the 24-hour service center on Pitt’s main campus, on November 3 just before 7 p.m. for reports of a student being filmed inside the women’s bathroom. The incident was said to have happened inside the women’s restroom on the ground floor of Benedum Hall. The victim said Gan followed her from class into the restroom and walked into the stall next to her. She then stated she saw Gan’s phone come over the top of the stall with its camera lens pointed at her. The complaint said the victim left the stall and confronted Gan, whom she then brought to Panther Central. Police spoke to Gan, who told police he had a “desire to see women and was curious about what they did in the restroom from watching Pornhub,” the complaint stated. Officers searched Gan’s phone and did not find any photos taken of the female student from inside the restroom. Gan is facing harassment and invasion of privacy charges. Officials said when they arrived on scene, a female student told police that 21-year-old Yichao Gan followed her into the bathroom and attempted to film her with his cellphone.
