Native American culture celebrated at the Rhythms of the Land event in Scranton

Scranton’s “Rhythms of the Land” celebration showcased Native American culture through music and dance while looking to pass down traditions.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Tradition was on display in  Scranton for the Rhythms of The Land: A Native American Song and Dance Celebration.

The event at “Parker Street Landing” along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail in Scranton offered a unique look into Native American music, dancing, and culture. 

Organizers say events like this pass down traditions to the next generation. 

“One of the things we try to share with people is that we’re still here. That no matter what has happened to us throughout history, our people were diligent enough to keep speaking Seneca and keep our beliefs and our values going, and we are still Native American today,” said Bill Crouse, of the Allegany River Seneca Dancers.

The event also encouraged audience participation during these traditional performances.
