A Scranton woman was recently arrested for allegedly possessing illegal drugs.
According to court documents, a Jefferson Police Officer was responding to a call for a dog running at large on August 5th, and when the officer arrived, an individual was seen in a parked vehicle in the driveway of the home where the animal belonged.
Court documents show that the officer approached the individual, later identified as 59-year-old Julie Simms, and she stated that she had been staying at the home and accidentally left a door unsecured that led to the dog getting loose.
Court reports state that the officer noticed an odor of marijuana coming from Simms and the officer asked her to exit the vehicle, and as she did, she was holding her purse. Court documents show that the officer asked for consent to search the purse, which Simms gave, and items relating to marijuana and a crystalized substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, along with smoking devices were also found.
Simms was then arrested and charged with a Class D Felony for her third or subsequent offense for possession of methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor for her second offense for possession of marijuana and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.
