The Northwest Regional Firefighter Challenge took place July 23 until July 25 in Akron, Ohio. Several City of Erie firefighters competed and rose to the challenge.
The Firefighter Challenge Championship Series has been testing the skills of firefighters for more than 30 years.
The competition features a series of real-world, job-related obstacles designed to showcase the strength, endurance and readiness of fire crews.
Open to firefighters of all experience levels, the series also promotes fitness and training while encouraging the next generation of first responders to pursue careers in the fire service.
City of Erie firefighter Judah Gardner says the competition highlights the everyday skills needed for the job.
“It’s just a good way to represent your fire department.” Stated Gardner, “And it’s a good way to show you’re fully capable for the job. And it’s just a fun competition to do with other fire departments as well.”
The National Firefighter Challenge will take place September 23 until September 26 here in Erie.
