Fire crews in Fairview Township spent considerable time knocking down a house fire Sunday evening.
The fire broke out around 5 p.m. at the 1800 block on Manchester Road in Fairview Township.
Multiple fire companies responded to fight the fire after flames from a basement fire spread into the first floor of the home.
It took a while for firefighters to pinpoint the source of the fire, and officials said accessing the basement was difficult.
After they knocked down the fire, firefighters continued to find hot spots throughout the home, which kept them on the scene for a couple of hours.
“A fire started in the basement and extended up into the upstairs, and that’s all the information we have right now. It’s been extinguished, and we’re just doing some overhaul and trying to make sure all the hot spots are out,” said Evan Baker, Safety Officer for the Fairview-Lake Shore Fire Department. “The basement is not a full-height basement, so it was a little bit difficult getting down into there.”
