A Bethlehem man will spend at least a decade in prison for shooting two years ago in the city.
Allen Grimes, 20, was sentenced Monday to 10 to 20 years in prison for shooting a woman in the 400 block of Cherokee Street on Feb. 28, 2024, according to Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta.
Grimes shot the woman in the neck that afternoon, then fled. Surveillance footage showed Grimes running from the scene, according to police. A man who was with the victim during the shooting told authorities he and Grimes knew each other, and he previously had a conflict with him, court documents state.
The victim, 22, was hospitalized of her injuries.
Grimes was arrested in New York City about a month later, and charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and possessing an instrument of crime.
He pleaded guilty Monday to charges of aggravated assault, according to a DA’s office news release. In addition to his prison sentence, he was sentenced to five years of probation.
