23-year-old motorcyclist pronounced dead following collision with SUV during police chase | Reading Area

READING, Pa. – A 23-year-old man is dead after a crash in Reading on Monday night.

The Berks County district attorney tells 69 News that the motorcyclist was leading city officers on a chase when his bike hit an SUV.

Reading Police say the accident occurred at the intersection of North 9th Street and Green Street.

The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Reading Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 10:40 p.m., officials say.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.

The coroner’s office said the motorcyclist has been positively identified, and notification of next of kin has been completed.

However, the person’s identity is being withheld at this time to allow family members the opportunity to grieve this sudden and tragic loss, according to the coroner’s office.

The Berks County Coroner’s Office and the Reading Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The investigation remains ongoing.

“The Berks County Coroner’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the decedent during this difficult time,” the coroner’s office said.
