After being alerted to a fire Monday afternoon by a home security camera, an Amity Township couple rushed home and rescued their dog with the help of a neighbor, fire officials said.
The blaze was reported around 1:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Indian Run Drive, off Weavertown Road. No one was home at the time, but the homeowners work nearby and were on scene when first fire crew pulled up.
No one was injured, officials said.
An Amity Fire and Rescue crew could see a column of smoke from the fire from more than a mile away as they headed to the scene, Cpl. James Mileshosky said.
Flames were visible in a front corner of the home when they pulled up. Neighbors detained the dog for the couple.
Crews knocked down the bulk of the flames within about 15 minutes but required water from tanker trucks to fully extinguish the fire. A fire officer requested tanker support from area fire companies to shuttle water to the scene from Daniel Boone Middle School, a couple of miles away, because spacing of the nearest hydrants wasn’t ideal, Mileshosky said.
At least one crew from Montgomery County responded.
A state police fire marshal was at the site investigating the cause of the fire, which caused enough damage to render the home temporarily uninhabitable, Mileshosky said.
A damage estimate wasn’t immediately available.
