Two found dead, children unharmed after shooting in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights neighborhood
PITTSBURGH —
Two people were found dead after a shooting in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights neighborhood on Wednesday morning.
Allegheny County emergency dispatchers said police were called to an apartment in the 100 block of Hazlett Street.
A woman and a man were found dead inside, along with four children who were unharmed, Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson Emily Bourne said.
Witness accounts indicated that there was some sort of domestic altercation leading up to the shooting, according to police.
“There is a fair bit of damage to one of the units, indicating that at least one of the deceased individuals were firing rounds prior to entry into that apartment,” Bourne said.
The shooting is under investigation by Pittsburgh police, who said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
“I will say that, at this time, we have no outstanding individuals in this case,” Bourne said.
Police said the children, ages 11, 9 and two 7-year-olds, were taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as a precaution.
It’s unclear who the children belong to, and the relationship between the two gunshot victims has not been determined, police said.
