The Erie Community Foundation spent the entire day Tuesday raising money as part of their annual fundraiser called Erie Gives.
With over 500 nonprofits participating and thousands of supporters, this year’s fundraiser is expected to surpass last year’s.
According to Karen Bilowith, by midnight Tuesday night, they raised over $11 million and they are not finished counting yet.
“It is not final yet; we are still counting, but we expect that we will surpass last year’s total,” said Karen Bilowith, president and CEO of the Erie Community Foundation. “The generosity of this community is really unsurpassed and they demonstrate that every year on Erie Gives, throughout the year, the community foundation gets to work with thousands of donors, but Erie Gives Day is a day when our community really comes together in support of the great non-profit work.”
Although online giving is a one-day event, people send in checks, so they expect their final count at the end of September.
