Mayor Eddie Moran and state Rep. Manny Guzman will host the city’s fifth annual Back-to-School Giveaway, providing free school supplies, haircuts and other services to help families prepare for the start of the school year.
The event will take place Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the courtyard at 644 Penn St.
Students will receive free school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Free snacks, refreshments, fresh fruit, haircuts, hairstyling services and vision screenings will also be available.
Community organizations will also be on hand to connect residents with local and state resources.
“Every child deserves to start the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed,” the mayor said in an announcement. “For the fifth year, we’re bringing our community together to support Reading families by providing essential supplies, free services and resources that can make a real difference.”
Guzman said the annual event continues to expand its impact by helping underserved families prepare students for the new school year.
“This year’s Back-to-School Giveaway is bigger and better than ever, and I look forward to bringing families together and providing immediate support to students across our community,” he said in a statement.
Free parking will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Sixth and Cherry streets parking lot, courtesy of the Reading Parking Authority.
