CUMRU TWP., Pa. — For nearly a decade, Tracy Christmann has watched the Shillington Farmers Market grow and change. And now, she’s helping use this place to give back.
“This market has turned into an international food Mecca. We’ve got all kinds of food. We have things besides food, but we’ve got the produce, and we’ve got the butcher,” said Christmann, office manager at the Shillington Farmers Market.
Now Tracy and other vendors are using all that foot traffic to help local families.
“They’ve got lots of kids, and they know how important it is for kids to be ready for school, prepared, maybe not always being able to afford to buy some of the things that you need,” Christmann said.
The market is partnering with Hope Rescue Mission for a back-to-school clothing drive.
“They are absolutely in need of clothing and shoes and coats, men, women and children. So we would love to have the community come in and bring whatever you can,” Christmann said.
And Tracy can show you exactly where to leave it.
“There is a box at the main door, and then there is also a box right across from the Kerfuffle K-pop stand, which is right near the restrooms,” Christmann said.
Bring a donation, and you might even leave with a free coffee or doughnut.
“We’re part of the community. We know times can be tough for everybody. We want this to be a welcoming place for people to come with their families,” Christmann said.
The drive runs through August 29.
