Pittsburgh police: ‘Critical incident’ in Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar is officer-involved shooting
PITTSBURGH —
Allegheny County police are investigating after a Pittsburgh police officer shot a suspect, they said.
Victor Joseph, assistant superintendent of Allegheny County police, said Pittsburgh police originally responded to reports of three men arguing and threatening to pull guns.
The incident is happening in the 6600 block of Lyric Street in the city’s Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood on Thursday night.
When two Zone Two officers arrived, they encountered one man with a gun in the street, Joseph said. An officer fired at the suspect after the suspect refused to put the weapon down and made a quick turning motion, he said.
The man was hit in the lower body area and was taken to the hospital, where they are in critical condition.
Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 video showed a large police presence in the area.
Police say the officer who fired was “not a rookie.” Allegheny County police are investigating.
