PITTSTON — Four years can pass quickly when you’re busy making people look and feel their best.
That is certainly the case for Wally Armitage and the team at Just You Salon, which is looking forward to celebrate its upcoming fourth anniversary in Pittston while Wally himself marks an even bigger milestone — 35 years in the beauty business.
It began four years ago when Armitage took a gamble and moved his salon to his salon to 48 S. Main St. with less than a handful of employees. Now he boasts a staff of 12, offering clients not only traditional hair services but, an increasingly broad range of beauty and wellness treatments.
“We’re trying to get more back into the community and become more involved,” said Armitage. He will be announcing upcoming plans for the salon’s fourth anniversary at the current location as well as his person achievement of 35-years in the beauty industry.
For Armitage, the anniversary is about more than simply marking another year on the calendar. It is an opportunity to recognize the clients and community that have supported Just You Salon since it opened its current location.
The salon has continued to expand its offerings, including facials and specialized hair and scalp treatments.
In addition, they offer cuts, coloring services, styling, hair restoration, and a new product from Sweden called Noir Stockholm.
One of its more distinctive services is a scalp and hair analysis using specialized equipment that allows the stylist to examine the scalp and hair more closely.
The analysis can provide a detailed look at the condition and texture of the hair and scalp, helping the salon determine what type of treatment may be appropriate for an individual client.
That personalized approach is also reflected in the salon’s use of natural treatments and customized oils. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, the goal is to develop treatments around the individual needs of the client.
Noir Stockholm professional hair-care products were founded in Stockholm in 2007 and describe its philosophy as combining style and hair care. Its products are made in Sweden and are built around nourishing ingredients and modern formulas, with shampoos, conditioners, treatments and styling products designed to be combined into customized hair-care routines.
Among the Noir line are products designed for volume, conditioning, curls, styling, dry shampoo and heat protection. The company says its products are vegan and are developed using natural raw materials and ingredients selected for their hair-care properties.
For Just You Salon, the addition of Noir is another way of giving clients access to products that complement the salon’s professional services.
The growth of the salon has also mirrored the growth-taking place around downtown Pittston. With new residential and commercial development planned or underway in the area, Armitage sees an opportunity for local businesses to benefit from an increasing number of people living, working and visiting downtown.
But while the surroundings may be changing, the focus at Just You remains personal.
Four years after opening in Pittston, the salon has grown from a three-person operation to a 13-member team. That growth, Armitage said, is something to celebrate — but so is the opportunity to continue serving the community.
And with 35 years behind him in the beauty industry, Armitage knows something about longevity.
The upcoming anniversary celebration will give Just You Salon a chance to look back on its first four-years in Pittston, introduce clients to some of its newer services and products, and, perhaps most importantly, say thank you to the customers who have helped make those four years possible.
For Armitage, 35 years in business and four years at Just You are milestones worth celebrating — but they also represent the beginning of the next chapter.
