BETHLEHEM – The Dihlabeng Local Municipality has issued an important community alert following confirmed reports of a lion or possibly multiple lions roaming near Rietfontein and Astral Farm in the Bethlehem area.
Evidence of livestock attacks in the area has raised serious safety concerns among local farmers and residents.
Municipal officials say they are working closely with local law enforcement and wildlife experts to locate and safely capture the animal. Patrols have been dispatched, and tracking teams are on the ground investigating the extent of the threat.
We urge all community members, especially those living or working near Rietfontein and Astral Farm, to exercise extreme caution, the municipality said in a statement. Please stay indoors as much as possible and report any sightings immediately to local authorities.
Farmers have been asked to account for their animals and secure enclosures until the situation is resolved. Motorists traveling through the area are also advised to remain alert, particularly during early morning and evening hours when wildlife is most active.
