Butler Twp. Police charged an Allentown man following a traffic stop that occurred during an aggressive driving enforcement detail.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were conducting traffic enforcement around 4 p.m. on Aug. 6 along the 100 block of South Hunter Highway when an officer observed a vehicle traveling 68 mph in a 40-mph zone.
Police subsequently conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as John Garland Eden, 64. During the investigation, Eden informed the officer that his driver’s license had been suspended following a previous driving under the influence (DUI) conviction.
A review of Eden’s driving record revealed that his operating privileges had been suspended since 2005. Court records also showed that he had previously been convicted four times for driving while under a DUI-related suspension.
Eden was charged with being a habitual offender and driving under DUI suspension, both misdemeanor offenses, in addition to several summary traffic violations. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing next month in Magisterial District Court
