He scored twice in the 4-1 win over Holyport to follow up his brace in the 4-0 defeat of North Leigh last Friday. In both games, City scored two goals inside the opening 10 minutes.

The Cityzens opened their account against their Berkshire rivals when Henry Paxford headed home Joel Valentin’s cross, and two minutes later, Denny doubled the lead after good work by Shane Cooper-Clark.

Holyport pulled a goal back in the 25th minute against the run of play, but Denny restored his side’s two-goal lead just before half-time, finding the top corner of the net from the edge of the area.

Another powerful effort from distance saw Cooper-Clark add the fourth goal on the hour mark.

“We were not at our best, but still scoring some good goals,” said manager Simon Johnson.

“The group continue to demand more from each other, and all play their part. Long may it continue.”

Commenting on last Friday’s win over North Leigh, he said: “It was a pleasing night all round. Riley’s two goals set us on our way and gave us a real confidence boost.”

Denny found the back of the net twice in the opening four minutes and Cooper-Clark went close with a long-range shot before heading home the third goal, his first of the season.

The visitors came into the game more in the second half but could not find a way past City’s new 18-year-old goalie, Kai Mussilhy, who has had experience with Chesham United, Northwood and Hayes & Yeading.

Ollie Harris set up an easy chance for Ellis Cowd to bag the fourth goal.

Following the defeat, Rhys Denton stepped down as North Leigh’s manager along with assistants Luke Hanshaw and Omotayo Oladele.

This Saturday, City host Hellenic League Premier Division side Fairford Town in the FA Cup.

* Woodley United fell at the first hurdle in the FA Vase, losing 3-1 to Cirencester Town at Rivermoor Stadium on Saturday, although it wasn’t until late on that the tie was decided.

The unbeaten Hellenic League Premier Division side took a 28th-minute lead when the unmarked Jonty Welch lobbed the ball over George Hurneyman in the Woodley goal.

The second goal came in the 73rd minute, with Cirencester’s centre back Ed Scott rising above home defenders to head into the net.

Woodley pulled a goal back in the 89th minute when debutant Rio McFarlane’s long ball saw Enow Ojong withstand a challenge to place the ball past keeper Connor Johns.

But hopes of a last-gasp equaliser ended three minutes later when McFarlane’s challenge resulted in a penalty, enabling Harlie Price to score a third goal, earning his side a home tie against Corsham in the next round.

After a midweek trip to Bedfont to take on PFC Victoria, Woodley play Shepherd’s Bush at Beaconsfield Town’s Holloways Park on Saturday.
