Broad Street in Bethlehem will go car-free, allowing for biking and walking along the major city thoroughfare, during an event set for next month.
The event, “Bike Broad,” will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 12, according to a news release from Lehigh Valley Coalition for Appropriate Transportation, which is partnering with the city to hold the inaugural event.
Broad Street will be closed down from Eighth Avenue, near the Bethlehem Rose Garden, to downtown Bethlehem. Eighth Avenue between West Union Boulevard and West Broad Street will also be closed.
A community festival with music, food vendors, local businesses, community organizations and the Bethlehem Rose Garden’s Farmers’ Market, will be held.
The event will let residents connect while experiencing the future of the corridor, which includes protected bike lanes, traffic-calming measures and safer pedestrian crossings, according to the release.
The city received a $10 million grant in 2023 to revitalize Broad Street.
