Superintendent of Schools Fred McDowell says the financial ask is necessary to maintain continuity of services in the district, which estimates a nearly $4-million gap in its 2027-28 budget without the additional revenues. The district has struggled to maintain services amid rising costs for energy and insurance and a state funding formula that expects the local tax base to contribute more based on property assessments.
