NORTHAMPTON, Pa.- In addition to preparing for the upcoming school year, the Northampton Area School District spent the summer unloading some properties it no longer needs.

As 69 News reported in May, in the wake of a budget deficit, the district’s board of school directors voted to sell four properties that would not be in use for the 2026-2027 school year:

Moore Elementary School at 2835 Mountain View Dr. outside Bath in Moore Township.

Franklin Elementary School at 855 Lincoln Ave. in Northampton.

Washington Technology Center at 2389 Main St. in Northampton.

The former district administration building at 2014 Laubach Ave. in Northampton.

Now, Northampton Superintendent Joseph Kovalchik tells 69 News that the district has sale agreements in place for all of the properties, with the exception of the tech center.

Both Moore Elementary and Franklin Elementary are being sold for the district’s asking price, $3.4 million and $1.025 million, respectively, Kovalchik said.

The admin building fetched a lower price; it’s being sold for $910,000. The district’s asking price was $1.4 million.

Washington Technology Center is still on the market for $1.39 million. 

The district announced a redistricting plan in September of 2025 that included closing and selling the tech center, Franklin Elementary and the admin building. It also voted to close Moore Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year, but, at that time, the district was still considering renovating the school or knocking it down and building a new school on the site.

Later, the district approved Moore Elementary’s permanent closure and sale.

In May, the school board voted 5-4 to adopt a 2026-27 budget with a 4.2% tax increase, 69 News reported. 

The district’s deficit was then recorded at $12.7 million. But $5.2 million saved through salary and staff reductions, plus $1.2 million in bond fund interest earnings and $3.5 million from the tax increase, would bring the deficit to $2.8 million.

Next week, Northampton Area School District students return to their classrooms for the new school year. Some will make up the inaugural classes at the district’s brand-new elementary school, East Allen Elementary, at 7200 New Seemsville Road.

Administration offices are now located at the new Education Center located at 7250 New Seemsville Road.
