TUNKHANNOCK, WYOMING CO. (WOLF) — For years, the Bev’s Blue Ball Charity Golf Tournament has brought members of the community together for a day of golf and giving back.
Hosted each year at The Greens at Shadowbrook Resort, the tournament raises money to support a local person, organization, or family facing difficult circumstances. This year, the community came together to support West Scranton resident Bobby Kane, who is facing another battle with cancer.
Organizers said proceeds from this year’s tournament will go toward helping Kane and his family as he continues his fight.
Organizer Mike Bevilacqua said his family has been hosting the charity golf tournament for the past five to six years. He also shared what inspired his family to start the event and why giving back to the community is so important to them.
“Today’s tournament started many years ago. Just for fun. We did it with a bunch of friends, employees. And, it just grew, so we figured maybe we could do something good. Give back to the community a little bit,” said Bevilacqua.
Bevilacqua also said he and his family look within the community to identify those who are in need. He said giving back is a simple way to make a difference, and his family is always happy to help.
“The fundraising this year goes to a gentleman by the name of Bobby Kane. He’s a West Scranton resident. We like to try to keep all of the funds local, which we do every year. We choose a different one every year. My children, myself, and then we have a tie breaker, but, it’s normally unanimous. It’s very simple to give something away to somebody who needs it,” said Bevilacqua.
Organizers said 128 golfers took part in this year’s tournament.
