A Reading man has been arrested after Berks County detectives said they searched his residence and seized drugs with a street value of $9,800 along with two firearms.
Diamonte P. Sims, 24, of the 600 block of Brookline Plaza is charged with possessing and intending to deliver a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia, person not to possess firearms and receiving stolen property.
According to a release from the district attorney’s office:
As part of an ongoing drug investigation, detectives from the Berks County Drug Task Force determined Sims was selling drugs from his residence.
On Thursday, they obtained a warrant to search the residence.
On Friday about 9 a.m., they went to the residence, searched it and seized the following:
• Packaged powder and crack cocaine.
• Unidentified pills believed to be controlled substances.
• Packaging materials and other items commonly associated with the distribution of illegal narcotics.
• Two firearms.
Investigators said Sims is prohibited from possessing firearms because of a prior conviction. Further details of the prior conviction were unavailable.
Detectives also determined that one of the firearms seized, a 9 mm pistol, had been reported stolen in Reading.
Sims was taken into custody and taken to the sheriff’s central processing center, where he was awaiting arraignment later Friday.
