Move-in day across Erie brought new faces to both Penn State Behrend and Gannon University, where staff and volunteers spent the day helping students settle into their new homes away from home.

At Penn State Behrend, the campus welcomed 76 new first-year students. Welcome Week teams lined the sidewalks, helping families unload vehicles, move belongings into residence halls, and guide students through the check-in process.

Across town at Gannon University, more than 600 freshmen moved in throughout the morning. Volunteers assisted with carrying belongings, answering questions, and helping make the transition to college life as smooth as possible.

“I see that everyone is really joyous right now, so having a supportive community is the most important thing in college,” said Franklin Antwi, a freshman at Penn State Behrend.

“It’s really exciting,” said Jennifer Milewski, a freshman at Gannon University. “I love walking around, hearing all the music, and watching everybody move in. It’s a very exciting day.”

For many students, move-in day marked the beginning of a new chapter, filled with opportunities to build friendships, gain independence, and become part of their campus communities.

Both universities will continue welcoming students throughout the week as orientation events and welcome activities help first-year students adjust to life on campus ahead of the start of classes.
