PALMER TWP., Pa. – Gusty winds continue to sweep through our region, leaving thousands of customers without power.
Some people in Northampton County are left cleaning up the damage from downed trees and wires.
A long Wednesday night of powerful winds caused quite a scare for 48-year Palmer Township resident Mark Hefele.

“It sounded like a bomb,” Hefele said.
His neighbor’s tree came crashing down onto Baldwin Drive, knocking out a stop sign, pulling down energized wires, and causing drivers to figure out a new route around the neighborhood.
“[I] called MetEd at 10 p.m. Well, they couldn’t come out because of the wind storm. They said 7.am., they’ll be out.”
But the generator in Hefele’s front yard has its work cut out, going strong nearly twelve hours.

The winds continue to cause damage across the region, including in Lehigh County. In North Whitehall Township, a tree slammed into a mobile home.
In Allentown, other trees took out power lines.

Thousands of customers in Lehigh, Northampton, and neighboring counties are still anxiously waiting for the lights to turn back on.
But Hefele is thinking positive.
“Could always be worse, could be a little better too,” Hefele said.
